SOME THOUGHTS ON GIFT GIVING TO OUR BABY...
- First, your presence in our baby's life is present enough. If you have the time, our family would much prefer your company to anything you could buy in a store.
- We know we have more space now, but we don't want to fill it to the brim, so: (a) experiences are the most welcome of gifts (e.g., a class pass) and (b) toys that foster creativity and imagination are preferred to those that bring someone else's imagination to life (e.g., wood blocks are preferred to "Disney" products).
- There's a time and a place for gender specific items, but when it comes to toys, at least for the time being, please ignore gender. For example, toys that foster STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills are much appreciated.
- If giving clothes, please think about the season and our baby's age. Please also stick to natural materials (e.g., cotton and not polyester), and, if possible, organic materials. Brands we love Burts Bees, Under the Nile, Hanna Anderson.
- Technology is a blessing and a curse, but maybe we can learn from those who live and breathe technology. Check out this article on "low-tech parenting".
- And when in doubt, gifts from Wild Was Mama, Sprout are almost always welcome.
