TEAM VOGEL

Going Green.

As many of you know, Simone is an earthy, crunchy hippie.  Well, not quite.  But one of her pet causes is environmental protection.  Her strong beliefs in this regard are primary drivers for many of the decisions related to the wedding, from the selection of our invitations, to the menu options we are choosing, to our comfort using stamps.  For more information, on the different things we are doing to "go green" please keep reading and click the provided links.

  • Save the Date.  We were trying to figure out the most eco-friendly way to do a save the date.  Our save the date is  printed with soy-based ink, on recycled materials (pre- and post- consumer materials), shipped in recycled envelopes with stamps that are made from recycled materials; and because it is a magnet, there is no need to throw them in the trash.
  • Offsets. We have asked for a carbon offset on our registry.  For information on how carbon offsets work, check out carbonfund.org.
  • Venue.  Our venue has a significant amount of natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting and reducing the amount of electricity.  Also, the venue is located in Manhattan, so shared cabs or public transportation are options for many of our guests.
  • Invitations.  Our invitations, of course, will be on recycled materials, and will more than likely be printed with soy-based ink.
  • Menu.  To the extent possible with a glatt kosher caterer, all food is "organic and eco-friendly."  Organic you probably are familiar with.  But what makes food eco-friendly?  For starters, this means that the food is locally grown so as to reduce the carbon footprint resulting from the shipping process.  More on this as we find more complete explanation.
  • Photography.  Seems silly, but the photographer will use a digital camera instead of film, which involves less product and chemicals.
